Kate's Salad & Salad Dressing

¾ C sugar
1/3 C vinegar
1 C oil (Crisco – blue cap)
1 Medium sweet onion (chopped)
½ Tsp. salt
2 Tsp. dry mustard or 2 Tsp poppy seed

Place in blender – top speed for 5 minutes.
I use the red loose leaf lettuce when available. Before using – wash lettuce well and put in ice water for an hour. Otherwise, I use head lettuce.
