The first alarm for the Perry Volunteer Fire Department was on Jan 1, 1954.

The Lima News reported that it occured at 7:50 p. m. when an oil stove exploded in the home of Joseph Roone at 119 E. 13th Street. The damage was estimated at $100.00.

According to Ruth Sheidler, Don Sheidler was on duty so he drove the truck on this first run.
